Hoa Binh celebrates Buddha’s 2,566th birthday

(HBO) - The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Hoa Binh Chapter held a ritual on May 10 to commemorate the 2,556th birthday of Lord Buddha at Phat Quang Pagoda in Hoa Binh City. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council Bui Duc Hinh was in attendance.

Buddha’s Birthday is a major ceremony, taking place every year on the full moon of the fourth lunar month to commemorate the birth of Lord Buddha - the founder of Buddhism. Buddha, whose real name is Siddhartha, is the son of King Tinh San and Queen Mada of the Shakyamuni tribe in ancient India. Buddha’s Birthday celebrations have long been a major festival of Vietnam.

Su congratulated the Provincial Buddhist Sangha Chapter, local monks, and nuns. "Over the years, Buddhist monks and nuns in Hoa Binh province have made great contributions to building the homeland, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements and the movement to build a cultural life, new-style rural area, and a civilised city,” he said.

Local Buddhists have come together to help each other develop the economy, sustainably reduce poverty, and mobilise the people to implement Party guidelines, contributing to fulfilling goals in socio-economic development and security and defence in the province, he noted.

He added that he hopes monks and nuns will boost the results to date and further strengthen great national unity, continue to effectively implement the patriotic emulation movement, live a good life, and join hands to build Hoa Binh province into a well-developed locality.

A number of rituals were held, including reciting Buddha blessings, incense offerings, and Buddha bathing rituals.

3.6 Billion VND Allocated to Preserve Traditional Cultural Values of Ethnic Minorities in Lạc Sơn District

As part of Project 6 under the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2024, Lạc Sơn District, Hoa Binh province focuses on diverse and practical activities to promote the project's goal: "Preserving and promoting the beautiful traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in conjunction with tourism development."

Mobilizing the power to preserve and promote the cultural heritage values

After 3 years of implementing Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU, dated October 11, 2021 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of Hoa Binh province's ethnic groups in the period of 2021 – 2025 with the orientation to 2030 (NQ04), it has mobilized the participation of the entire political system, the people from all walks of life and there have been positive changes. So far, out of the 10 targets of NQ04, 3 targets have been met and exceeded the plan set for 2025. Typically, 70% of the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of ethnic groups in the province is on the list of the national ICH items and they have been protected and restored, exceeding 20% of the proposed Resolution.
