In the evening of November 24th, at the Provincial Cultural Palace, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a public performance, summarizing and awarding the Folk Art Festival of Ethnic Minorities in 2023 in Hoa Binh province with the theme "Preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the ethnic minorities in Hoa Binh province”.

After 2 days, 300
officials, artisans, and actors from 10 districts and the city presented
contest contents including poetry, dance, music, performing a typical folk-art
program, an excerpt typical local festival, focusing on the theme of preserving
and promoting the heritage values of the ethnic minorities in the province.
According to the
assessment of the Organizing Committee, the participating teams have invested
and staged quite elaborately, ensuring the requirements of content, theme and
artistic quality. A lot of unique performances have attracted the attention and
follow-up of the audience such as the poetry performances: Telling stories
about the past life of Tan Lac district, Nang Nga with two termites, Thuong
dang and Bo met singing, going out on the street of Muong ethnic group, singing
love-making folk songs of Mong ethnic group, singing to bring children to the
husband's house of Tay ethnic group... Especially in terms of traditional
cultural rituals, festivals, ceremony excerpts are simulated and staged with
bold cultural characteristics. cultivating the beliefs of the peoples.
The Folk Art Festival
of the ethnic minorities in Hoa Binh province has contributed to evaluating the
results of the cultural and artistic activities and propaganda work, protecting
and promoting the value of the cultural heritage of the ethnic minorities in
the province. At the same time, it is an opportunity for the officials, the
artisans, and the actors to exchange and learn about expertise and
operations...
As a result, the
Organizing Committee awarded 50 prizes for 4 contents. In which, A awards were
awarded in the following contents: 6 awards has been awrded to the the poetry;
3 prizes to dancing, 3 prizes to music, 5 prizes to the festival excerpt. Prize
A for the entire group was awarded to 5 units: Tan Lac, Lac Son, Hoa Binh city,
Luong Son, Kim Boi. The organizing committee also rewarded 4 units that well
organized the Ethnic Minority Folk Arts Festival at the facility.
Gongs hold a special place in the cultural and spiritual life of the Muong ethnic people in Hoa Binh province. More than musical instruments, they are an indispensable part of community rituals and collective memory, echoing through generations as a spiritual thread linking the past, present, and future.
Preserving and promoting the cultural values of the Muong ethnic group has become an urgent task in the current context, as many traditional values face the risk of fading away. This effort requires not only protecting the cultural identity but also eliminating outdated customs and developing a modern cultural lifestyle, contributing to sustainable values for the Muong community in Hoa Binh province.
The Muong ethnic culture, deeply rooted in Vietnam’s mountainous north, continues to be preserved and revitalised by dedicated individuals and communities determined to safeguard their ancestral identity.
The Muong group is one of the largest ethnic minorities in Vietnam, primarily found in Hoa Binh province. The Muong people in Hoa Binh boast a rich and diverse cultural treasure that reflects the unique identity of this ethnic group. Accounting for over 63% of the province's population, they have created and preserved numerous distinctive cultural values, contributing to their unique identity. Their cultural heritage is an invaluable asset, at the heart of their national identity, and represents a vibrant spiritual life that must be preserved and promoted in today’s modern world.
For generations, the ethnic communities of Hoa Binh province, particularly the Muong people, have preserved vibrant festivals deeply intertwined with the region’s geography, nature, and social traditions. These celebrations enrich Hoa Binh’s spiritual life and cultural identity, reflecting both folk beliefs and the intermingling of ethnic customs. Many of these festivals have endured the test of time, passed down through generations and continuing to thrive today. Among them, the Khai Ha (Going Down to the Field) festival stands out as one of the most significant events of the Muong ethnic group.
Muong calendar, known as sach doi, is an ancient folk knowledge system developed through observations of the movement of the pleiades star. This unique calendar consists of 12 bamboo sticks, each representing a lunar month. Specific days within each month are marked with distinct symbols, guiding locals in determining auspicious and inauspicious days for important activities.
