Thanks to the development of social networks, Thung waterfall is gradually becoming known as a new destination, attracting tourists from inside and outside the province thanks to its wild beauty. This is a positive sign opening up opportunities for tourism development in the mountainous commune of Quyet Chien, Tan Lac district.

With its wild beauty, Thung waterfall, Quyet Chien commune (Tan Lac), is gradually becoming an attractive destination for tourists.

This is a natural waterfall hidden among the rolling hills. At the end of 2023, an image of a nearly 30m high waterfall pouring down onto a long rocky slope like a white silk strip was suddenly widely shared by a travel-loving community on social platforms. Since then, the waterfall has gradually become an attractive destination to tourists from near and far. Known as "a sleeping fairy in the forest" because of its pristine beauty with lush vegetation, and fresh and cool air, this is a plus point for it to become an ideal choice for short-term trips.

Located about 120km from Hanoi and nearly 50km from the centre of Hoa Binh city on National Highway 6, roads to Thung waterfall are quite convenient. Nguyen Van Thang, a resident of Bac Thung hamlet, shared that roads to the hamlet had been concreted to the foot of the waterfall by 2023. From June to September, the number of visitors to the waterfall is the highest. To get there, tourist should go by motorbike or buses of less than 29 seats.

With an altitude of over 1,000m, it is beautiful in all seasons, and the temperature is always 5 – 7 degrees Celsius lower than the surrounding areas. Visitors can follow the trail to the top of the waterfall to fully enjoy its beauty and bathe in the natural lake at its foot. In addition, they can camp on the grass, rest in the hut area in the bamboo forest next to the waterfall, and enjoy dishes with the rich flavour of Hoa Binh cuisine served by locals.

Coming to Tan Lac, in addition to Thung waterfall, visitors can also enjoy the beauty of terraced fields, experience community-based tourism in Chien hamlet (Van Son commune), visit some caves such as Nui Kien and Nam Son, hunt clouds at Lung Van peak, and explore Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong Nature Reserve.

With its available potential and strengths, Tan Lac district needs to have a stronger transformation in tourism development to not only improve the quality of the life for locals, but also contribute to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values.
