(HBO) - For about 3 years, Coconut Island in Sang Trach hamlet, Vay Nua commune (Da Bac district) has become very famous. Travelers visit around here not only on the festive seasons but also many months throughout the year. The owners of the island whom the visitors call "King” of Coconut Island are the father and son of Dinh Tuy Nguyen and Dinh Hanh Nguyen.

A few years ago, the family came here to settle, set up business and the place at this time was wild land.

At the moment, there is only Mr. Hanh’s family on the island. He plants trees which are mostly such as mango, lychee and longan with the area of nearly 5 hectares. Ten years ago, he planted coconuts around the island with the number of 100 trees. A small island with four seasons of abundant flowers, beautiful landscape and cool fresh air is wonderful conditions to help forming the idea of ecological tourism of Hanh’s father and his. In addition, the name of "Coconut Island” is derived from the coconut palms that none of island in the island system of Hoa Binh Lake has. This is also the name which distinguishes the Coconut Island with some of the islands that were formerly known as Windmill Island.

Since 2010, with the orchard, Mr. Tuy and his son have built the whole infrastructures from none to the ideal eco-resort tourism destination. The whole Coconut Island of Hoa Binh Lake has 12 stilt houses and 1 conference hall with capacity of about 350 people. The places of entertainment for visitors have been and continue to be completed and upgraded such as children's playground, soccer field, volleyball, tennis. Despite owning only one ship in the past, Mr. Tuy and his son built three ships more and there are currently six tourist ships serving customers who demand to visit tourism destination and sightseeing on the Lake of Da River.

During the holiday season, guests who visit and relax in the island of Coconut are very crowded. Especially at weekends, the island welcomed dozens of tours that the number of visitors per day is not less than 1,000 people and the demand for meals go up to 300 trays. According to "King” of Coconut Island – Dinh Hanh Nguyen, visitors to the resort often reserve in advance for his family to prepare. Beside the main dishes such as hill chickens, village pork, Da river fishes and Buffalo with Nom leaves, visitors who wish to use other dishes are also welcome by the owner. He connects with a nearby household who supplies food sold by ethnic minorities therefore it ensures freshness and breeding in the wild.

Coconut Island is becoming a beautiful island with good resort services, keeping the love of visitors who travel on the tourist route in the Lake of Da River. On the summer vacation of the students, the island also welcomes a lot of young people to visit, stay and organize cultural activities. The family also invested more in the landscape by planting 200 coconut trees in addition and planting oranges combining of eco-tourism in order for guests to experience more.
