Developing community tourism in association with new rural construction in Mai Chau

(HBO) – Possessing potentials, advantages for tourism development and the foundation for new rural construction, Mai Chau District 25th Party Congress, the 2015-2020 tenure, identified: "Mobilizing all resources to develop economy and society as well as strive by 2020, Mai Chau district becomes a community tourist site in association with new rural construction”. In order for Resolution to pass into the life and people’s thought, Mai Chau district has attempted to turn the policy into action.

Lac village, Chieng Chau commune (Mai Chau district) has become an attractive destination for many years.

In order for the route of developing tourism and building new rural area not to interrupt or slow down, up to now, the district has attracted 7 tourism projects with the total registered capital of 83 billion VND, and the total capital was implemented by 56 billion VND. Particularly, Thien Minh Hoa Binh Tourism., JSC had a total registered capital and implemented by 30 billion VND, Sunrise Hotel and Tourism Co., Ltd had a total registered capital and implemented by 5 billion VND, Mai Chau Ecolodge (Ecotourism and Travel Co., Ltd) had a total registered capital and implemented 16 billion VND, Tu Steam tourist project in Bao La commune had a total registered capital of 5 billion VND, Ba Khan Tourist Village., JSC had a total registered capital of 3 billion VND, and Northwest Tourism Investment and Development., JSC had a total registered capital of 15 billion VND.

In current, the whole district has 7 hotels, 22 motels and 117 community resthouses. Since the publication of Mai Chau National Tourist Sites Plan, the number of tourism projects and the number of visitors have increased rapidly. In 2017, there were 324.536 visitors travelling to Mai Chau, particularly in 225.222 domestic visitors and 99.314 foreign visitors. The revenue from tourism activities attained by 89,379 billion VND. In the first six months of this year, Mai Chau received 161.713 visitors and the revenue gained by 52,285 billion VND. These are happy signals that Mai Chau tourism is starting to look good. Mai Chau is the district which has a low starting point, but it thanks to the proper policy of the district party: "Mobilizing all resources to develop economy and society as well as strive by 2020, Mai Chau district becomes a community tourist site in association with new rural construction”, therefore, the new rural construction movement has been very favorable.

Da Bac’s culture lures visitors

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, visitors from near and far are eager to come to the mountainous district of Da Bac to have unique cultural experiences such as learning to wrap traditional cakes of ethnic minorities, practicing writing ancient Tay characters or immersing themselves in the Tay melodies.

To make Tan Lac highland communes become “Sapa of Muong”

Tan Lac has great potential for tourism development. In addition, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 13-NQ/TU, dated October 17, 2022, on building the highland communes in Tan Lac district into provincial-level tourism areas by 2030, with a vision to 2050. However, according to the assessment, implementing the goals in the spirit of Resolution No. 13-NQ/TU has had limited results.
