Assorted activities to welcome New Year 2019 will be held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, in the Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay town, Hanoi, during a four-day holiday from December 29, 2018 to January 1, 2019.

The programme will feature a rural market recreating the distinctive space of an open-air market in the northern mountainous region, folk songs and dances, and puppetry performances by artists from the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre.

Traditional crafts and cuisine of ethnic groups in the region will also be introduced to visitors at the village, including the forging craft of H’Mong people, weaving craft of the Lao, and the making of five-colour sticky rice of the Dao, among others.

On the eve of New Year 2019, a programme entitled ‘New Year Pine Tree’ was staged at the Vietnam Central Circus by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Hanoi.

Children at the event were entertained with circus acts and short plays which were adapted from popular fairy tales. They were also invited to decorate the pine tree and join puzzle competitions.

In the ancient town of Hoi An, Quang Nam province, 3,000 colourful lanterns will be lit up on the evening of December 31 during a programme to ring in New Year 2019. The programme will also include a sparkling firework display, music, and folk games.
