US Cable News Network (CNN) will continue to introduce Hanoi’s beauty to international audiences as part of the city’s tourism promotion campaign in the 2019-2023 period, the municipal Department of Tourism announced on January 18.

Accordingly, this year, CNN will focus on exploring Hanoi’s culture, heritage and people, reflecting Vietnam’s beautiful landscapes and diversified cultural aspects.

In 2020, Hanoi will be promoted as a new tourist destination, especially with the Formula One racing, while in 2021, the capital city will be introduced as the host of the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games - a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from 11 regional countries. 

In 2022, Hanoi will be seen in an aspect of technology, a destination of Vietnam and the world and in 2023 the world’s future gateway.

Last year, CNN broadcast three 30-second promotion clips focusing on Hanoi, namely "Hanoi – Heart of Vietnam”, "Hanoi – Cradle of Heritage” and "Hanoi – History, Culture and People”, along with a special programme titled "Destination Hanoi”.

The video clips have received positive feedback from audiences, tourists, international and local media, receiving the best marketing campaign award of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asian – Pacific Cities (TPO) Forum. 

In the year, Hanoi made it to US-based Time magazine’s list of "best destinations for every type of traveller” and in top 10 Asia – Pacific ranking of overnight business trip destinations by MasterCard. 

The city was nominated by the World Travel Awards as one of the 17 candidates for a prize of the world’s leading city destination 2018. It was also ranked 12th among the 25 best global destinations in 2018 selected by TripAdvisor readers.

Hanoi welcomed 5.74 million foreign visitors in 2018, up 16 percent against 2017, among 26 million tourists spending time in the city. It is striving to serve nearly 29 million tourists, including over 7 foreigners, this year, or year-on-year rises of 10 percent and 17 percent.-
