                                         Phu Quoc Island

President of Bangkok Airways Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth stated that Phu Quoc Island is the second location in Vietnam that the airway has launched a direct air route to, following Da Nang in 2016.

He noted that the first flight to Phu Quoc from the Suvarnabhumi Airport will be carried out on October 29.

Bangkok Airways will use ATR 72-600 aircraft on the route with a frequency of four flights per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Bangkok Airways said that with the 30-day visa exemption for international tourists visiting Phu Quoc, the island will become one of the most popular destinations for tourists.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang highly valued the tourism potential of Phu Quoc Island, particularly as the island will be developed under the model of a special economic zone as approved by the Vietnamese Government.

The ambassador affirmed that the air route will not only help to promote tourism but will also facilitate trade activities between Bangkok and Kien Giang province.

According to Kien Giang provincial Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc Island has received more than 2.26 million visitors in the first nine months of this year, up 8.8% over the same period last year, including more than 242,000 foreign visitors.
