(HBO) - Promoting the potential and advantages of local tourism, Yen Thuy district has set a goal of developing spiritual and religious tourism, becoming a friendly, safe and attractive destination for tourists.

Xam village in Phu Lai commune is upgraded and restored as an attractive spiritual tourist spot of Yen Thuy district.

The district focuses on developing the domestic tourist market from Hanoi, Red River Delta provinces, gradually expanding to the southern provinces. It exploits international tourist markets such as mainland China, Taiwan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Attention will be paid to promoting the potential of eco-tourism of primitive forests in Lac Luong and Da Phuc communes; Water Cave - Thien Ton cave in Ngoc Luong commune and Thien Long cave.

Bui Van Hong, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee, said in order to create momentum for tourism development, the district has restored a number of historical and cultural relics such as Hang Pagoda - Chua Cave at a cost of 1.95 billion VND and Thuong Communal House in Yen Tri commune with a budget of about 900 million VND from contributions from local people.

A number of traditional festivals are being preserved to create typical tourism products. In addition, the district also promotes the values of national cultural identity through the art performance teams at grassroots level.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the district’s development of tourism since 2020. The total number of visitors to the district last year was 5,961, reaching 12.2 percent of the year’s year while the revenue decreased sharply to only 3.2 billion VND, accounting for 26.67 percent of the plan. The prolonged pandemic has resulted in a standstill of tourism activities this year.

To ensure the quality and create professionalism in organisation of tourism activities, the district sets up an inspection team in the field of culture and regularly examines the activities of the relics’ management boards, Hong said.

Students are dispatched to participate in training programmes, fostering professional tourism activities organised by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and were granted certificates in accordance with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s regulations, he added.

The Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee said to promote and introduce Yen Thuy tourism, the district’s Centre for Culture, Sports and Tourism has made short videos about scenic spots, tourist attractions, communal house architecture and pagodas namely "Yen Thuy - potential and strengths in tourism development” and "Yen Thuy - hidden beauty”.

Projects and programmes under the district's tourism development plan are posted on the district's website, thereby attracting investors to the sector in the locality.

As the COVID-19 pandemic is gradually controlled, Yen Thuy district strives to revive tourism by focusing on attracting investment, strengthening the management and product diversification as well as promoting dissemination on tourism and environmental protection./.
