Over many generations, ethnic minority groups of Dao, Nung and La Chi in Hoang Su Phi district, the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, have worked hard to create thousands of hectares of terraced fields in the rugged land with many high mountains and deep ravines.

The terraced paddy fields not only bring prosperity to local people but also create a beautiful picture of nature in the ripening rice season. Due to the harsh weather conditions, the locals harvest only their crops once per year; therefore, visitors can only admire the charming beauty of Hoang Su Phi terraced fields in the autumn.

In order to have terraced fields, the locals had to make a lot of effort and use cultivation techniques on sloping lands proficiently.

Hoang Su Phi district’s tourism has been developed based on terraced fields. Many cultural and tourism villages were built on gigantic fields.

A culture and tourism week honouring the values of Hoang Su Phi terraced paddy fields has been held annually, attracting more visitors to Ha Giang province.

During the week, visitors had the chance to learn more about the cultural identities of ethnic minority groups in the locality.

The ripening rice season has begun, making Hoang Su Phi become a wonderful destination for tourists.
