India and Russia on October 5 resolved to further widen their energy cooperation.

During talks between the two sides led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two sides acknowledged the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector.

They encouraged companies from the two countries to consider a wide range of opportunities for cooperation in the sector and they also welcomed the ongoing cooperation between the energy companies of their countries, according to a joint statement issued at the end of the talks.

The two leaders also vowed to pay special attention to issues of security and stability, including combating terrorism, drug-trafficking and organized crime, the statement noted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is in India for a two-day visit.
