The
Australian official paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Prime Minister at
Government House, Bangkok, on January 10.
During the meeting, Thailand has pledged to work closely with Australia on the
suppression of drugs and human trafficking.
Ms. Payne said the two countries have long enjoyed a close relationship. She
said Australia is willing to share its expertise and work with Thailand and
other countries in the region to solve transnational crimes. She added that
Australia supports Thailand as the chairmanship of the ASEAN this year.
After the meeting, the Australian Foreign Affairs Minister and Thailand's
Digital Economy and Society Minister, Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, signed a
memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cyber and digital cooperation between the
Thai and Australian governments to help increase Thailand’s and the region's
capabilities against cyber threats.
