Preparations for public participation in the coronation ceremonies of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn – Rama X, slated for May 4th-6th, have been completed.

According to Bangkok Post, the City Hall is bracing for an influx of more than 150,000 people, expected to flock to Sanam Luang for the King's coronation ceremonies this weekend.

Visitors are expected to pack the grounds and surrounding roads near the Grand Palace to pay their respects to the King, who will perform the liap phranakhon ritual on May 5th, during which he will make a short trip to several parts of the capital, City Hall officials said.

About 200 medical teams will be on standby to take care of attendees every 100 metres along the route.

Security will be beefed up and first aid services, drinking water, food as well as portable toilets will be provided.

Teachers and students of Kasem Bundit and Bangkokthorburi universities have also been mobilsed as interpreters of English and Chinese for foreigners at the ceremonies.

The procession route for the King’s coronation ceremonies covers a distance of 7.2 kilometres in Bangkok Old City.

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn became King Rama X in December 2016, after his farther King Bhumibol Adulyadej – Rama IX – passed away in October the same year, at 88./.
