China, Laos agree to build community of shared future

China and Laos have agreed to build a community of shared future with strategic importance during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the Southeast Asian country.

The two sides made the decision during a meeting between Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Bounnhang Vorachit, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos in Vientiane on November 13.

The two countries will continue the spirit of good partners, consolidate the China-Laos friendship and strive to lift their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

The two leaders discussed international and regional issues of common concern, and reached consensuses.

They agreed that building a community of a shared future with strategic importance based on mutual trust is in accordance with the interests of the two parties, two countries and two peoples.

Laos was the last destination of Xi’s first trip abroad since the 19th National Congress of the CPC last month. This was also the first visit of a top Chinese leader to Laos since 2006.

Earlier, Xi attended the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam’s Da Nang city before arriving in Hanoi to start his state visit to Vietnam.
