Myanmar and Bangladesh on November 22 started talks on the repatriation of thousands of Rohingya Muslims.

A Bangladeshi delegation led by
Foreign Secretary MD Shahidul Haque attended the negotiations between the two
countries. A memorandum of understanding is hoped to be reached after the
talks, paving the way for the two countries to repatriate all Rohingya people
from Bangladesh to Myanmar.
A final meeting between Foreign
Minister of Bangladesh Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali and Myanmar’s State Councillor
Aung San Suu Kyi is expected to be held in Nay Pwi Taw capital city of Myanmar
on November 23.
The two countries have to date agreed
on principal the repatriation, but there remain differences.
Government security operations were
launched in Rakhine state after Rohingya Muslim insurgents attacked police and
military outposts on August 25. The operations led to more than 600,000
Rohingyas fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh.
