HBO – Hoa Binh lake is one of the largest man-made lakes in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh, spreading about 8,900 hectares in 19 communes of Hoa Binh city and four districts. With a diverse aquatic ecosystem and clean water, the lake is home to many precious, endemic species of fish, which is favourable for fish breeding. Over the past time, many organisations and individuals have invested and partnered in breeding Da River fish under the value chain, ensuring food safety and meeting market demands.

The project on connectivity in Da River fish production and consumption has been implemented since 2017-2018 in Hoa Binh city and four districts. Hai Dang Seafood Ltd., Co. and Cuong Thinh Construction and Service Ltd., Co. in Thai Thinh commune, Hoa Binh city have participated in the project with 240 cages which churn out about 800 tonnes per ha. Ten households in Hien Luong commune, Da Bac district have also joined the chain with a total of 93 cages and an output of 300 tonnes per ha. They produce both specialty and traditional species of fish.

Hai Dang Seafood Ltd., Co. is breeding fish in accordance with VietGap standards. Its products are delivered to restaurants and hotels in the northern region, especially Hanoi.

The businesses and households have received training and financial support to buy fries, been equipped with knowledge about VietGap standards and food safety regulations, and been assisted in trade promotion and product sales.

Nguyen Huu Tai, head of the bureau of agro-forestry-fishery product quality management, said companies and cooperatives engaging in the project have well performed their role in production and consumption, paying attention to introducing Da River fish to consumers. The Hoa Binh clean food store and its branches have been established, supplying Da River fish to major supermarkets in Hanoi like Big C and Fivimart.
