(HBO) - The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant's output reached the benchmark of 250 billion kWh of production electricity at 14:05pm on May 25, making an important contribution to ensuring the country's energy security, said Pham Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company - the plant's operator.

The plant has eight
turbines with total capacity of 1,920 MW. In recent years, the Hoa Binh
Hydropower Company has contributed from 1 – 1.4 trillion VND (43.3-60 million
USD). It also paid 300-450 billion VND (13-19.5 million USD) in resource taxes
to neighbouring Son La province andover 200 billion VND (8,6 million USD)
in forest environment service fees to six provinces in the upstream Da river
basin per year.

is now being expanded under a project worth 9.22 trillion VND (399 million
USD). Once completed, the plant will have two more turbines, each with capacity
of 240 MW. The average annual power generation output is estimated at about
488.3 million kWh. As scheduled, the first turbine will generate electricity in
the third quarter of 2024, and the second one in the fourth quarter of that
year./.
Once a mountainous province facing many challenges, Hoa Binh has, after more than a decade of implementing the national target programme on new-style rural area development, emerged as a bright spot in Vietnam’s northern midland and mountainous region. In the first quarter of 2025, the province recorded positive results, paving the way for Hoa Binh to enter a phase of accelerated growth with a proactive and confident mindset.
