(HBO) - Hoa Binh is a mountainous province located in the northwestern region with a population of 900,000, about 9.4% of which are workers and public employees. During the 2018 - 2023 tenure, implementing the Party’s reform policy and under the direct leadership of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and all-level Party committees and administrations, trade union activities and the workers’ movement in the province has been continually reformed to bring into play the strength of the working class. Trade unions have properly performed their role as the centre and the core of the workers’ movement in the new era. Via their activities, the role and stature of trade unions at all levels have been gradually promoted.

Bui Duc Hinh, Standing Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, talks to officials of the provincial Labour Federation about the fulfillment of trade unions’ role in the time ahead.

Over the last five years, all-level trade unions have pressed on with communications to disseminate the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, and improve the political mettle, working style, and life style of workers, especially young ones. They have also properly cared for and protect workers’ rights and legitimate interests via practical programmes and activities.

During the tenure, trade unions have visited, presented gifts, and offered financial support worth over 170 billion VND (nearly 7 million USD) for disadvantaged members. They have also spent more than 2 billion VND to help repair and build 55 houses for the less privileged.

In addition, they have coordinated with authorities to inspect agencies, organisations, and businesses’ implementation of policies for their employees. They have also actively taken part in the building of harmonious, stable, and progressive labour relations at agencies, organisations, and businesses.

Activities of trade unions at all levels have been reformed strongly. As a result, patriotic emulation movements and campaigns have been carried out in diverse forms and reaped fruit, thereby encouraging workers and public employees’ creativity. A number of role models in their works have also been recorded.

More attention has been paid to the development of trade union membership, the improvement of grassroots unions’ activities, and the participation in the Party and administration building.

During the tenure, 139 new grassroots trade unions have been established, 27,041 new members admitted to trade unions, 5,906 outstanding members nominated for Party membership, and 4,059 of them admitted to the Party.

Those achievements have helped consolidate and promote the standing of trade unions, thereby contributing to the fulfillment of political, socio-economic, and defence - security tasks of Hoa Binh.

For the 2023 - 2028 tenure, with the spirit of "Reform - Democracy - Solidarity - Development”, trade union activities and the workers’ movement in the province need to build on their attainments, address shortcomings and weaknesses, and properly perform the focal tasks.

To secure new strides in trade unions' activities and the workers’ movement, Party committees and administrations at all levels need to further enhance their leadership and directions over and create favourable conditions for trade unions to fulfill their role and duties and contribute to local development.

In the new tenure, local trade unions need to continue upholding their obtained results and exert stronger efforts to gain greater achievements in all social aspects, build increasingly strong trade unions, and serve as a bridge linking the Party and State with the working class, thereby contributing to comprehensive and sustainable development of Hoa Binh.
