(HBO) – Over the past years, thanks to efforts by businesses, cooperatives and farmers, as well as support from provincial authorities and local administrations, products under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) programme along with outstanding agricultural and rural products in Hoa Binh province have become more popular among consumers.

Ngo Dinh Tam, head of the agriculture and rural
development division of Lac Thuy district, said the district aims to upgrade,
standardise and recognise another four OCOP products rated three - four stars
by the end of 2023. The agricultural sector will coordinate with communal-level
People’s Committees to help producers of typical local products complete legal
procedures, better packages and designs, and improve product quality. It will
also devise development plans for suitable OCOP products.
So far, Lac Thuy has had 17 OCOP products rated
three - four stars. Such products as tea and processed or semi-processed bamboo
shoot have been exported to Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Germany.
Other OCOP products are being sold widely at many stores of clean farm produce
in the district and Hoa Binh province, as well as major e-marketplaces like
Voso.vn and Posmart.vn.
Results of the OCOP programme have contributed
to economic restructuring, income improvement, along with sustainable rural
economic development, helping Lac Thuy earn the new-style rural district title
on schedule.
In recent years, agricultural production in Hoa
Binh province has recorded improvements thanks to the participation of
all-level authorities, sectors and localities, the change in farmers’
production mindset, and the timely engagement of e-commerce businesses in
equipping producers and traders with digital skills.
Across the province, 123 OCOP products have been
rated three - four stars. Meanwhile, more than 100 safe food production and
supply chains have taken shape, helping enhance the connectivity between
farmers and businesses to align agricultural production with the market, and
implement the province’s agricultural restructuring plan.
Twenty-one production unit codes have also been
granted to a total farming area of 168.7ha, opening up opportunities for
exporting local farm produce to big markets. Since the start of this year,
seven businesses and cooperatives in Hoa Binh have exported more than 1,504
tonnes of processed agro-forestry-fishery products worth 62.52 billion VND
(over 2.5 million USD) to foreign markets, including Japan, China, the UK, and
the EU.
Nguyen Huu Tai, head of the provincial
agro-forestry-fisheries quality assurance division, said that to help local
OCOP products expand their presence in domestic and foreign markets,
stakeholders need to actively build production and business plans and develop
products, apply scientific and technical advances to farming, improve product
quality, trademarks and designs, and build brands.
To do so, he added, his division will continue
giving guidance, assess and grant food safety certificates to producers and
traders, assist businesses and cooperatives in trade promotion, and conduct
inspections on the compliance with food safety regulations.
