After the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, all supermarkets and traditional markets as well as the majority of shops in Hoa Binh have resumed operations, while goods supply has been abundant with stable prices, meeting the demand of local residents.

After Tet, the commodity market has continued to be stable, with abundant supply and stable prices. Strong purchasing power has been seen in some products such as yogurt, frozen seafood, green vegetables. Photo taken at Vi Hoa Binh Supermarket.

In some traditional markets, traders start selling products from the second day of the first lunar month, while local supermarkets re-opened from the fourth or sixth day.

Nguyen Thuy Nhung, a shopper from Thinh Lang ward in Hoa Binh city, said that her family has lo longer store a lot of food in the refrigerator during Tet, as traditional markets reopened right from the second day of the New Year, providing fresh foodstuff. She also showed pleasure at the stable prices of commodity during the freshly-ended Tet festival.

Among the province’s efforts to control the market, the market stabilisation programme was an important solution to keep commodity prices stable during Tet. This year, the programme in Hoa Binh drew five businesses with a combined investment of 48 billion VND (1.94 million USD). The firms, which provide necessary commodities such as rice, cooking oil, confectionary, and petrol, committed to maintain stable prices, product supply and shops from January 3 to February 29.

The shopping habits of locals have also changed without the storing of goods during Tet, contributing to reducing goods shortage.

Statistics from the provincial Department of Industry and Trade show that the locality’s total retail sales of goods and service revenue in February 2024 are estimated to reach 7.38 trillion VND, an increase of 0.35% compared to the previous month. Effective measures have been rolled out to prevent and combat smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit commodities before, during and after Tet, it said.

Do Manh Dung, head of the General Operations Desk under the Market Surveillance Department of Hoa Binh, said that during Tet, the Steering Committee for Anti-smuggling, Counterfeit Goods and Trade Fraud of the province detected and handled 110 cases and collected fines and tax arrears of more than 327.9 million VND, with legal proceedings launched on four cases of firecracker smuggling and illegal transportation.
