The "Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods” campaign, carried out in Hoa Binh province for 15 years, has helped change the consumption habit of local residents.
As a three-star OCOP goods, Chien Tho canna vermicelli has been highly appreciated for its brand and quality, and has reached out many cities and provinces in the vicinity. The Chien Tho production facility sells to the market 110-120 tonnes of the staple annually, and creates stable jobs for 15-20 local labourers.
The campaign has been implemented harmoniously and drastically in the province, with programmes, plans and practical measures developed to improve the leadership role of Party committees at levels as well as promote the strength of the political system to gain the enthusiastic response of the people from all walks of life.
Hoa Binh organises 9-10 fairs and exhibitions every year, drawing up to 100 enterprises nationwide to showcase their products at 100-190 booths. Each event attracts 15,000-40,000 visitors, who said they are impressed by local standout products like Muong Dinh wine, Cao Phong organge, Tan Lac pomelo, Kim Boi bamboo shoot, and Shan tuyet tea.
Besides, 109 market fairs have been arranged in rural, remote and mountainous areas. Throughout such events, local firms have stepped up trade promotion, exchanged production experience, and grasp consumers’ taste.
Besides, the province’s fatherland front committee has kept a close watch on local food safety by organising various inspections. In the meantime, the market development department has worked closely with the association for the protection of consumers’ rights to hold consultations that help local consumers identify fake and low-quality goods.
According to Vice Chairman of the fatherland front committee Tran Duc Truong, with a view to effectively carrying out the campaign, it is necessary to enhance the leadership of Party committees and authorities at levels, as well as promote the role of the fatherland front and its member organisations.
Communications work on the campaign should be accelerated while more goods should be brought to rural, mountainous and remote localities, he said, adding competent sides must fight against trade fraud, as well as counterfeit and substandard goods to protect the consumers.

From just 16 certified products in its inaugural year to 158 by early 2025, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme in Hoa Binh province has followed a steady and strategic path.
