(HBO) – To promote the youth’s enthusiasm, young people and members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU) of Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province, have taken various practical actions, contributing to the local new-style rural area building.

In 2017, the district’s HCM CYU mobilised more than 10,000 its members to participate in the new-style rural building and put 14 hygienic toilets into operation at communal houses in residential areas, worth over 98 million VND (4,313 USD). It also built four raised areas for performance at communal houses in Muong Khen township, Bac Son, Nam Son and Ngo Luong communes.

Besides, members of the HCM CYU cleared and repaired over 47 kilometres of intra-village roads, concretised one kilometre of rural roads and dredged 10.5 kilometres of irrigation canals and collected 15 cubic metres of garbage in densely populated areas.

Members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Man Duc commune (Tan Lac district) build a road in Khi hamlet.

Environmental protection is one of the main tasks of the district’s HCM CYU. Last year, it organised 14 campaigns to erase unorganised street advertisements and clear road corridors. It also dredged 25 public water tanks, 34 public wells and plant 14 "Do not litter” signboards, sprayed disinfectants in the district 13 times and grew 1,750 trees at communal houses and the People’s Committee and along roads in mountainous communes, as well as planted flowers in the youth’s self-managing road sections, said the secretary of the district’s youth union.

In a bid to help local communes meet the requirements of new-style rural areas, young people in Tan Lac have held many activities in the past years to support communes to build new-style rural areas. In addition to road building, lighting up local roads is also one of the impressive models which gave local villages a facelift.

In 2016, Man Duc commune met all requirements of the new-style rural areas building. The achievement is attributable to members of the commune’s youth union. Secretary of the Man Duc HCM CYU Bui Van Phan said since the national target programme on building new-style rural areas has been launched, the communal youth union was tasked with building rural roads with local residents as well as ensuring environmental hygiene. In response to communication campaigns on the tasks, members of the communal youth union actively participated in and became a key force, contributing thousands of working days to the work.

"Although Man Duc is a new-style rural commune as recognised by the provincial People’s Committee, we are aware that we need to spare no efforts to maintain and enhance the quality of the criteria. Apart from launching activities to keep roads tidy, the commune has to date encouraged growing flowers on the youth’s self-managing roads, said the Secretary of the communal youth union.

To promote the outcomes, the HCM CYU of Tan Lac district, this year, will continue mobilising its members to join the building of new-style rural areas and protect the environment. In January, it began the construction of seven toilets at communal houses in seven villages in Dong Lai commune and Muong Khen township. In 2018, it aims to build more raised areas for performance at communal houses and children’s playgrounds, along with fostering environmental protection and rural roads constructions./.
