(HBO) – Residents in Lac 1 village, Chieng Chau commune (Mai Chau) have detected and alerted authorities on the acts of Trinh Van Toan, a member of the so-called Provisional National Government of Vietnam – an exile reactionary organisation, and four other suspects, thanks to their high vigilance against crimes.

Police officers of Mai Chau district and Mai Ha commune work closely with local communities to promote the role of residents in maintaining political security and social order and safety at the grassroots level.

This is just one in many stories about the vigilance and active participation of people in Mai Chau district in the fight against criminals and maintaining political security and social order and safety from the grassroots level.

Especially, thanks to locals’ support, Mai Chau’s police have coordinated with the provincial police to arrest and persuade many wanted drug criminals to give themselves up to the police, including the two most sought after, namely Sung A Pao in Pa Hang village (Pa Co commune), and Kha A Giang in Thung Ang village (Hang Kia commune).

Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Mai Chau district’s police chief, said that social order and safety situation in the district remains complicated, with various types of crimes reported in many places.

Therefore, Mai Chau’s Party Committee and administration have strengthened leadership, and directed communes and towns to continue stepping up the movement encouraging all people to join in protecting national security.

Departments and offices have been requested to intensify communication campaigns using diverse forms to popularise the Party’s policies and the State’s laws on crime and social evil prevention to local people from all walks of life, with the focus on areas and groups of high risks.

Over the past decade, thanks to alerts from locals, Mai Chau police detected 441 cases related to social evils, 187 drug cases involving 126 suspects, while eliminating 115 drug crime hotbeds, and persuading 26 wanted criminals to give themselves up to the police.

In addition, the district’s authorities have also encouraged locals to hand over 3,658 guns of all kinds, 82 shotgun barrels, 10 grenades, and 127 kg of dust shots. The authorities held education classes for 278 released prisoners and 34 probationers to help them reintegrate into the community.
