In Hoa Binh, most of the festivals take place between the 4th day and 13th day of the first lunar month. To ensure safety for the people in the festive season, the provincial police conducted a crackdown on crime from December 16, 2017 to February 28, 2018 (or the 13th day of the first lunar month).

The police forces, including traffic police and police of district and communes, have taken drastic measures to prevent and combat crime and ensure order at places where the festivals are held.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Thi Thu Hang, deputy chief of the province’s traffic police department, the police force has increased patrol around areas where large-scale festivals take place while policemen have been deployed to festival sites to direct traffic as these festivals attracted a large crowd of visitors.

The police have also coordinated with other state agencies to ensure traffic safety on waterways, with focus on waterway routes on the Da River along which some 265 passenger boats and ships were registered for operation.

The police have requested ship and boat owners to sign a commitment not to violate traffic regulations and publicised unqualified ships to prevent them from transporting passengers.

In the first quarter of 2018, the police fined 17 ships for overdue registration and suspended another for not registering.

No lengthy traffic jams at festival areas were reported during the period.

Some 22 policemen of Lac Thuy district and Phu Lao commune have been mobilised to ensure security at Tien Pagoda Festival since it opened the second day of the first lunar month. The force will be increased on the weekend to prevent peddlers, beggars and motorbike taxi drivers from disturbing visitors

At the same time, they have worked to prevent superstitious practices, gambling and circulation of illegal cultural products and raise awareness among local people and tourists of tricks of thefts and pickpockets./.
