Shortly after receiving instructions from the Party’s Committee and People’s Committee of Bac Son, the commune’s military command has mobilized local forces including the police and mass organisations, and coordinated with the district’s police and military command expel illegal gold miners from the mining site. The command also assigned working groups to guard the site at night to prevent the illegal miners from returning and local residents from joining illegal gold mining.

After the operation, authorized forces have arrested 11 illegal gold miners, including 9 men and 2 women, according to Bui Van Liem, deputy chief of Bac Son’s police. Five of them are from Son Thuy, Kim Boi district of Hoa Binh while the remaining hail from Nam Dinh, Cao Bang, Vinh Phuc and Hanoi.

The site where they have conducted unlawful gold mining activities covers an area of about 360 sqm on Tang Hill. The land was initially owned by the family of Bui Van San, a local man living in Hay Tren Village.

In April this year, San’s family sold the land to a man named Son in Hanoi for 300 million VND.

The arrested miners told the authorities that Son bought the land for the stated purpose of growing tangerine but in fact, it was used for illegal gold mining.
