(HBO) - In 2017, Phuc San commune (Mai Chau district) was heavily affected by floods and landslides. There were one person died, two injured, 18 households in the high risk of landslides, 4 household needed to be urgently removed. The heavy rain caused flooding of nearly 12 hectares, 45 traffic junctions were being sliding down with landslide, causing traffic congestion, and the total damage was estimated at over 20 billion VND. Facing the weather situation in 2018with many complicated occurrences, The Commune Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Rescue has actively implemented measures to prevent and minimize losses of human and property of the local people.

Commune (Mai Chau) is gathering manpower and materials to handle landslide
areas, ensuring safety for the traffic in the area.
According to the
real investigation in the locality, the terrain of Phuc San commune is mainly
mountainous, with a dense network of rivers and streams. The commune does not
have a flat ground for housing. As a result, the local people live focusedly
nearby the rivers, streams and foothills. Therefore, in the rainy season, they
are so worried that floods would cause landslides and rock running down.
To actively
protect from natural disasters, the Commune Steering Committee for Natural
Disaster Prevention and Rescue already held a meeting to discuss, set up and
implement the motto "4 right at the area” to all the local people and members.
The Committee also set up an examining group to check all the potentially risky
areas of sliding, regularly monitoring the weather forecast in order to timely
guide people to move to safe places, which have been surveyed previously by the
Group, assigning the staff who will be in charge of the area, to closely follow
the grassroots to help the local people actively handle sudden and unexpected
situations, to arrange the blocking force at two underground ends, preventing
people from moving when flood water rises, making the fullest use of manpower
and material resources to limit the damage to manpower and property of the
local people.
