(HBO) – The Dao ethnic hamlet of Dang Long in Bac Son commune (Kim Boi) has been covered with "the new coat”. Thanks to the support of the State, the people's unity, the road to the hamlet has been hardened, instead of the rugged trail before. The electricity, clean water, television have come to the village, the cultural houses were spaciously built, the children can go to school every day.


 Bamboo shoots open the way to get out of poverty situation for Dang Long hamlet, Bac Son commune (Kim Boi).

Mr. Bui Van Luong, the Chairman of Bac Son Commune People's Committee, said: "Located far away about 6 km from the center of Bac Son commune, Dang Long hamlet has 53 households, 270 people, of which Dao ethnic minority accounts for more than 95%. The life here before was almost separated from the outside, the local people became familiar with rice and maize. There were less trade in goods, mainly self-supplying. The conditions of harsh climate, lack of water for living and production had many effects on the economic – social development. 100% of households are in poor and disadvantaged conditions, with the efforts of the Party Committee and the government, the commune has pushed the propaganda and mobilized the people to change into grow the effective plants, contributing their efforts and money to build the infrastructure and transportation for convenient travelling and mechandise trading. This would be the basis to open the way for poverty elimination in this rural area.”

With the specific characteristics of an upland commune, the local people were in poor and hungry situations year- around due to  limited cultivation area, lack of irrigation water, only focusing on corn and rice. Facing these difficulties, the Party Committee and the authorities of Bac Son commune instructed the people to change the crop plantation to suit more with the climate and soil; Promoting the pioneering, exemplary of cadres, village chiefs, and prestigious people in the area. At the same time, they paid attention on promoting the construction of dams, reservoirs, canals and irrigation systems. Now, bamboo shoots and sweet potatoes give the local people’s life much more enough. There are some households which can earn hundreds of millions of VND each year. Recently, the average income of Dang Long hamlet is 26 million VND / person / year. There are no more poor households in the hamlet.

Currently, bamboo shoots are the main product of Dang Long hamlet with a total area of 270 hectares. Every June, each truckload line of traders came to carry bamboo shoots downland for consumption. With favorable conditions, suitable climate, bamboo shoots in Dang Long is large evenly and crispy. With the average purchase price of 15,000 VND / kg, many households earn 30-40 million VND per crop, even there are households who can earn hundreds of millions VND.
