Bui Van Manh's mixed nursery of Doi seeds (michelia tonkinensis - on the
left), Be Duoi hamlet, Chi Dao commune (Lac Son) brings a high economic
efficiency.
Mr. Bui Van Du, the Secretary of the Youth Union of the commune said that
in the economic development impetus, there were youth union members who were
really quick at grabbing the market demand, opening the nurseries to supply the
customers with the indigenous michelia tonkinensis trees. Their annual income is hundreds of millions
VND. Typically, the models of raising pigs for meat are Mr. Bui Van Tan, Be
Tren hamlet and Mr. Bui Van Trong, Be Ngoai hamlet.
We have the opportunity to visit the nursery model of Mr. Bui Van Manh's
family in Be Duoi hamlet. Mr. Manh belongs to 9X generation but now he has
built quite a suitable nursery, providing tens of thousands of seedlings to the
market every year, bringing an income of a few hundred million VND. Mr. Manh
said that his family had once a nursery, but the scale was small and the
economic efficiency was not very high, just enough to support the family.
Realizing the economic value of michelia tonkinensis, he discussed with his
family to expand the nursery to provide the market with michelia tonkinensis
seedlings. Mr. Manh succeeded in transplanting the tree and this was the
turning point of this start-up journey. Mr. Manh told "With the transplanted michelia
tonkinensis, it takes only 4 years from planting to harvesting, while it takes
7 years for the normal michelia tonkinens, so they are quite popular in the
market. I myself have learned the techniques and met many failures before
having a nursery like today”.
