Nguyen Dinh Luong, Chairman of the Ky Son Traditional Medicine Association of Ky Son district, said traditional medical activities in the district have recorded certain developments in recent years. Ky Son has completed a system of health care facilities using traditional medicine from the district to grassroots levels. The district’s health care centre features a division for traditional medicine while 70 percent of communal-level clinics have carried out treatment using traditional medicine. Three private establishments practicing traditional medicine have also been licensed in Ky Son.

Some clinics have combined traditional medicine with modern one and gained good results. The number of patients coming to those establishments or herbalists’ houses to have check-ups and treatment has been increasing. They have reported health improvement when receiving traditional remedies for certain health problems like sciatica, headache, backache, insomnia, muscle pain and rheumatism.

To improve the quality of traditional medical practices, members of the Ky Son Traditional Medicine Association has often collected rare herbal plants and effective remedies. The association has also organised workshops and contests to find out precious traditional remedies to preserve.
