(HBO) – Hoa Binh province’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs on May 28 received Shan Tuyet tea processing devices and put into operation a Shan Tuyet tea processing workshop in Pa Co commune of Mai Chau district. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Bui Van Cuu attended the event.

Pa Co commune has around 115 hectares of tea with 1,250 ancient trees, of which 85 percent are in harvest time with an estimated output of 160 tonnes a year.

The output is expected to reach 300 tonnes of fresh tea buds per year by 2020. At present, after harvest, many local people have to transport tea to Moc Chau district for consumption. In September 2017, the provincial People’s Committee approved an intention to invest in building a Shan Tuyet tea processing workshop in Pa Co commune with a total investment of 4.5 billion VND, of which 3 billion VND spent on constructing the facility came from the provincial budget and the remaining used to buy devices is the capital of Phuong Huyen Seedling Production and Trading Limited Company.

Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Bui Van Cuu speaks at meeting with leaders of Mai Chau district and Pa Co commune.

The factory has a designed capacity of around 5 tonnes of fresh tea buds a day. Construction on the workshop finished at the beginning of 2019, and tea processing devices were handed over and checked on May 28.

The People’s Committees of Mai Chau district and Pa Co commune consider tea is the locality’s main crop. However, the material source has met only 30-50 percent of the capacity. Therefore, it is necessary to expand growing areas in the time ahead.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Bui Van Cuu said that the investment in the factory aimed to intensify production connectivity and create a product chain, thus helping address the consumption market issue for products, increase brand values, and bring about higher income for local tea growers.

He asked the Phuong Huyen Seedling Production and Trading Limited Company to bring into full play invested infrastructure and apply modern technology in tea production and processing to increase product competitiveness.

The company was also requested to provide science and technology-related consultations for locals to help raise productivity and quality of tea, fruit trees and other agricultural plants.

He stressed the need to expand Shan Tuyet tea growing areas to Hang Kia commune, create jobs and increase income for ethnic minorities, gradually reduce social evils, maintain political security and order, and develop tourism in line with growing clean and high-quality agricultural products to attract more tourists to Hang Kia and Pa Co communes./.
