(HBO) – Mai Chau district suffers heavy consequences of natural disaster lot during the storm season every year. Many houses were collapsed or unroofed while hundreds of hectares of crops were damaged, making economic loss worth tens of billions of Vietnamese dong.

 

Construction of Xia Lan bridge in Muoi hamlet, Mai Chau district’s Xam Khoe commune is accelerated to ensure safety for local people during the storm season.

As extreme weather conditions like whirlwinds and hailstones are forecast this year, there are risks that mountainous and low-lying areas will be hit by flash floods and landslides.

To ensure safety for local people and their properties during the flood season, Mai Chau district has devised natural disaster prevention and search and rescue measures. Relevant agencies have been assigned to inspect and evaluate conditions of the storm prevention works. 

The district’s steering board for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue will ask communes, towns and competent organisations to keep close watch on weather forecast and weather developments so as to have timely response.

At the same time, it will join hands with related units to protect lakes, dams and embankments, as well as prepare agricultural materials to promptly meet local production demand. They are also working together to figure out the total number of households living in disaster-prone areas like Phuc San, Dong Bang, Tan Mai and Tan Dan communes, and outline plans for evacuate the locals to safer places.

The district’s finance-planning division has planned several essential items, including 1,500 life jackets, 20 tents, 2,000 gunny sacks, and 300 cubic metres of stones in case of incidents.
