(HBO) – The Department of Education and Training of Hoa Binh held a conference on August 23 to review the 2016-2017 school year and launch tasks for 2017 – 2018. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Bui Van Cuu attended and gave instruction at the conference.
In
the 2016 - 2017 academic year, the sector had 20,767 officials, teachers and
208,173 pupils and students. It actively advised local Party Committees and administrations,
and coordinated with other departments, sectors and mass organisations to
implement Resolution 29-NQ/TW and resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels.
The
sector focussed efforts on strengthening the discipline in education and
training facilities, while reviewing and re-planning the network of education
and training establishments in the province to suit the conditions of specific areas
and localities. The sector also took measures to improve the quality of
education at all levels. Education for students from ethnic minority groups was
paid special attention, and the quality of teachers and education management
officials was improved through professional training courses. Infrastructure
system and teaching and learning tools continued to be improved.

The percentage of children in preschool age attending
school is 71.4 percent, and 98.6 percent of children received meals at school.
The 2017 national high school graduation examinations were held in a safe and serious
manner in accordance with regulations. The ratio of graduation at senior high schools
reached 97 percent. 36 students in the province won prizes at national contests
for 12th graders, helping the province rank 22nd out of 63 provinces nationwide
in the field.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Cuu recognized
and praised the efforts made by the education and training sector, while
agreeing with the nine major tasks and five groups of solutions to implement tasks
for the 2017-2018 academic year.
He noted that the sector should pay greater
attention to designing policies to improve the quality of education in
disadvantaged areas. The ratio of schools meeting national standards in the
province is still low in comparison with the national and regional average, he
said, stressing that it is a matter of concern for the province education and
training sector and localities. He also stressed the need to pay more attention
to quality of the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Along with
improving the standards of teachers, it is necessary to focus on comprehensive
quality, especially the teachers’ skills and sense of responsibility, he said.
Mr.
Cuu also asked the sector to evaluate the performance of schools after merging
and review the shortcomings of treatment policies for teachers and officials in
the education sector, thus giving advices to the provincial People's Committee on
measures of settlement.
On this occasion, the provincial People's
Committee presented flags to 38 collectives winning first place in the
emulation movement of completing tasks for the 2016-2017 academic year, along
with certificates of merit award to 65 collectives at second place and 60
collectives in the third place in the movement./.
In late March, 29 labourers from Da Bac district were sent to work as seasonal farm workers in Buyeo county, Chungcheongnam province, the Republic of Korea (RoK).
