The Prime Minister has approved a project to organise the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad in 2018 (APhO 2018) in Vietnam, which is hoped to help encourage the study and teaching of physics in schools, thus seeking and nurturing talented students in the subject.

APhO 2018 will take place in Hanoi from May 5-15 with the participation of about 30 teams from 30 countries and territories, along with 60 scientific observers and 17 international guests.

A National Steering Committee for APhO 2018 has been formed and headed by Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha.

The committee is tasked to coordinate with ministries, sectors and localities in preparing and organising the competition, while directing and supervising the implementation of the work. The University of Technology will act as the chair of the event.
