The Hanoi municipal chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) honoured 10 outstanding young people for their contributions during 2012-2017 at its 15th Congress held in the capital city from October 18-20.

They include Asso. Prof Tran Xuan Bach, wushu martial artist Duong Thuy Vi, head of the club "5,000 VND Rice” Bui Quang Long, "inventor of farmers” Ta Dinh Huy, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac, businessman Le Vinh Son, Sergeant Major Truong Duy Tung from the Hanoi Public Security Department’s Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting, deputy head of the Office of the Youth Association for Voluntary Blood Donation Recruitment Le Thanh Nam, captain Nguyen Ngoc Son from the Hanoi Public Security Department’s Criminal Police Office, and Lieutenant Nguyen Anh Tuan from the Hanoi Capital High Command. 

As the youngest associate professor in Vietnam, Bach is now a lecturer in health economics at the Hanoi University of Medicine’s Institute for Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He won the first prize of the Dang Van Ngu Award in 2013, the second prize in 2015 and the third prize in 2016, an award on international studies on clinical and preventive medicine from the Centre for AIDS Studies of the US’s Johns Hopkins University. 

He also offered instructions to over 30 students who later won 11 scientific research awards at the national and university level, authored more than 100 articles, including 60 ones published on prestigious international science magazines, and issued three books, two of them are written in English. 

Wushu martial artist Vi grabbed the first gold for the Vietnamese sports team at the SEA Games 2013, the only gold at the ASIAD 2014 in the Republic of Korea, and a number of gold medals. 

Meanwhile, Long founded the club "5,000 VND Rice” in August 2012, offering more than 30,000 food portions, thousands of water and fresh milk bottles to poor children, workers and students. 

Though only graduating from a high school, Huy successfully made a multi-functional farming machine and created jobs for 15 young people in the commune. He has so far produced over 1,000 machines with 15 functions as ordered by farmers nationwide.

In the fire at CT4A and CT4B apartment blocks in Xa La urban area in Ha Dong district, Tung led 50 people stuck at CT4B block to the terrace and took them to the ground safely. With such brave acts, he received the government’s certificate of merit. Last year, he was honoured with the title "Outstanding young people follow Uncle Ho’s teachings”.
