HBO - Implementing the National Target Programme on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, over the past time, Hoa Binh city has carried out many support programmes and promoted the communication work to create a change in awareness in poverty reduction and inspire the will of poor households to escape from poverty.

Thanks to the support from a project on beekeeping for honey, Nguyen Van Di's family in Du Phuong hamlet of Mong Hoa commune (Hoa Binh city) has gradually escaped from poverty.

Implemented from 2019, the cow raising model in Doc Lap commune under the National Target Programme on Sustainable Poverty Reduction has achieved certain achievements. The herd of cows has grown well, bringing benefits to farming households. Thanks to it, two households have escaped poverty, and seven poor households have become near-poor, thus contributing to the commune’s poverty reduction.

Beekeeping in Mong Hoa commune is also one of the effective models that help improve the livelihoods and lives of local poor and near-poor households. Currently, 12 out of 45 beekeeping households have escaped from poverty. This result has contributed to reducing the number of poor households in the commune to 28, accounting for only 1.52 percent.

Along with the support for the poor, from the beginning of this year, local authorities have paid attention to granting health insurance cards to local residents. In the first half of 2021, the total number of issued health insurance cards was 2,213, or 100 percent of the plan.

In addition, 446 poor households in the city were supported with reductions in electricity bills in the first and second quarters of this year.

By the end of June, more than 400 poor households had been provided with loans worth more than 15 billion VND, while more than 300 near-poor households got loans valued at nearly 12 billion VND in total, and over 200 households that had just escaped from poverty were provided with loans worth 8 billion VND.

Poverty reduction in the city has also received contributions from social resources, through activities of the city's Fatherland Front Committee, its members and the city's Red Cross Society. The city's Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have called for donations to the "For the Poor" fund, which supports the construction and repair of houses for 14 poor households with a total amount of 350 million VND.

Tran Thi Bich Huyen, Head of the Division of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hoa Binh city, said that up to now, the number of poor households in the city has decreased to 445 households (accounting for 1.27 percent) and that of near-poor households dropped to 461 households (accounting for 1.32 percent). The close coordination between specialised agencies has contributed to the results of the implementation of the poverty reduction programme in the city.
