(HBO) - Implementing the National Target Programme on Building New-style Rural Areas, the Women's Union of Tan Lac district has implemented many practical activities in association with promoting emulation movements, mobilising women to take part in creative and start-up activities, developing the economy and protecting the environment. As a result, their living conditions have been improved and the role of women in meeting the new-style rural area criteria has been enhanced.

Helping members set up shop and reduce poverty

This is considered as a key task and a breakthrough in the term, making a practical contribution to the programme on building new-styled rural areas and economic development of the district. Accordingly, unions at all levels have focused on communication to raise awareness and the will of women members on self-reliance for economic development and escape poverty. The quality of activities to support women in developing family economy has been improved to help poor households get out of poverty.

The district woman’s union has signed cooperation programmes and carried out a project on vocational training for rural workers. Fifteen women have received support in setting up shop and 2,099 members have been provided with vocational training. The union also helped members and people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic sell 7.6 tonnes of agricultural products valued at 30.7 million VND.

Protecting and building green, clean and beautiful environment

Every year, all women members are encouraged to periodically clean village roads and actively respond to "The Action Month for the Environment", "Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation Week", and World Environment Day.

The district's Women’s Union has organised 27 conferences and training courses on environmental sanitation and new-styled rural area building.

It also coordinated with other agencies in organising two competitions on dissemination for environmental protection and new-styled rural area building; model rural residential areas and communes meeting advanced standards. In particular, the women's unions at all levels have actively encouraged 2,373 member families to donate 661,000 sq.m of land, contributing over 2,976,952 work days to build roads between villages and construction of public works and building model residential areas./.
