(HBO) – As part of efforts to implement a project to support disadvantaged senior citizens (VIE070), and another to reduce the vulnerability of the elderly in income and health in Vietnam (VIE071), Da Bac district of Hoa Binh province has so far established five inter-generational self-help clubs with 260 members. With practical and useful activities, these clubs have helped improve the living conditions of members.

Volunteers of the inter-generational self-help club in Son Phu hamlet in Cao Son commune of Da Bac district contribute working days to support members of the club in production.

In Son Phu hamlet of Cao Son commune, members of the inter-generational self-help club meet on the 17th day of each month to enjoy sports and art activities as well as law education.

Set up in April 2022, the club has supported members in accessing soft loans and health care services.

Pham Xuan Dung, chairman of the club, said that currently, the club has 55 members, 70% of which are elderly people.

After their establishment, the inter-generational self-help club model in Da Bac has proved its effectiveness, drawing a large number of locals, especially senior citizens. The club has focused on assisting members to borrow capital to increase their income.

Under the VIE071 project, each club is provided with 130 million VND (5,447 USD) to support members in production development.

However, the operation and multiplying of the model in Da Bac, a mountainous province with difficult economic conditions, have faced many difficulties, especially in resources for the establishment and operations of clubs that are not funded by the projects. Meanwhile, many remote localities in the district have yet to access support from the clubs.

Dinh Manh Tien, deputy head of the representative board of the Da Bac Association of the Elderly, said that the association hopes for more financial support to set up more inter-generational self-help clubs.

In the coming time, the association will give training to people in charge of the clubs to improve their efficiency, while working to enhance the living conditions for the elderly in the locality.
