(HBO) – Although the severe flood ended for a couple of days, we cannot forget eyes full of fears on the muddy face of Luong Van Quanh in Hieng hamlet, Dong Ruong commune, Da Bac district on flood days. However, his smiles returned after soldiers of the provincial armed forces stood side by side with him to overcome difficulties.

Soldiers of the provincial armed forces transport tools and materials to build temporary houses for locals in Nhap Ngoai hamlet, Dong Ruong commune (Da Bac).

It can be said that soldiers are always present in anywhere there are hardships. Although the historic flood ended many days ago, no one can forget the image of soldiers staying in the rain to help locals in Hop Thanh anh Hop Thinh communes (Ky Son district) to escape from flood when the Hoa Binh Reservoir opened eight floodgates, or the image of soldiers staying in the river to evacuate locals from dangerous places.

Everyone also bears in mind the image of soldiers and policemen who forgot eating and sleeping for days to dig and transport thousands of cubic metres of soil and rocks to search for 18 victims of a landslide in Khanh hamlet, Phu Cuong commune (Tan Lac district).

In fact, on October 9-11, the province was hit by heavy rains, which resulted in floods, flash floods and landslides, leaving tens dead and missing.

To cope with the situation, the provincial Military Command deployed two battalions who were on training in Luong Son district to help people in Hop Thanh, Hop Thinh communes (Ky Son district) seek safe places when the water level of Da River rose.

At 3pm of October 11, when being informed that two people were buried under the ground as the impact of a landslide in Quen Bu slope between Lap Chieng and Nat Son communes (Kim Boi district), the provincial Military Command also dispatched soldiers to the scene. The search and rescue forces worked hard to dig soil and rocks to find the victims in the heavy rain and with the risk of following landslides. One body was found at 1am on October 12.

Notably, when the forces finished their task in Kim Boi, they immediately headed for Khanh hamlet at 2am of the same day after being informed of many people under ground by a landslide.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoa Vuong, Deputy Chief of Staff in Da Bac district, came to Suoi Nanh commune and Hay hamlet of Dong Ruong commune on October 11 to direct permanent soldiers of Da Bac’s military command to help people collect assets and search for the missing. Colonel Vu Hai Ninh, vice commander of the provincial Military Command, directly instructed armed forces’ soldiers to build 44 canvas houses for locals in Nhap hamlet of Dong Ruong commune and Lau Bai hamlet of Vay Nua commune whose houses had been swept away by flood.

Luong Van Hung, head of Nhap hamlet in Dong Ruong commune, shared: "During the flood, locals only had time to save their lives. In the hamlet, a lot of houses were swept away, people had no accommodations. Thanks to the help of soldiers and militiamen, 22 canvas houses were built. Therefore, locals had rain and floor shelters, while students’ learning was not interrupted”.

The images of soldiers staying in the rain and flood to save people created public confidence in a firm mainstay./.
