(HBO) - Project "Smart Farm" by a teacher and students from Cun Pheo primary and secondary school in Mai Chau district of Hoa Binh province has excellently won a special prize of the Coding With Commitment 2023 (Project of the Year) competition.

Teacher Bui Thi Hiem and students of the Cun Pheo primary and secondary school win the special prize of the Coolest Projects 2023 competition with "Smart Farm” project.

Under the instruction of teacher Bui Thi Hiem, head of the school’s programming club, the students, including Vi Dinh Bao An (5th grader), Luong Bao Tram (7th grader), Ha Dinh Hai Dang (8th grader) and Vi Thi Kim Chi (8th grader) studied the "Smart Farm" project.

From April-December 2022, they were determined to bring their ideas into life, which were formulated during the 2021-2022 academic year. As a result, they successfully designed a cattle cage model that regulates animal temperature, feeds them at the right time, and checks for diseases. Additionally, they built a fish pond model to monitor water pH levels and a vegetable garden model that detects when plants are wilting or contract diseases, enabling timely intervention. The project was highly regarded for its practical application, assisting local farmers in caring for cattle and crops, thereby safeguarding and developing their livelihoods.

This year, the Coolest Projects competition has attracted over 5,800 students from 37 countries. They submitted their projects online, all sharing a common passion for programming languages and aspiring to become "digital citizens" in a "flattened world."

It is known that the technology conglomerate Broadcom has funded the 2023 competition to encourage young people to use programming languages to address community development issues, health care, energy, climate change, and other challenges set within the United Nations' sustainable development goals.

It is the second time that Hiem and students from the school have achieved an award in an international programming competition. Earlier, they grabbed a third prize in a programming competition held by the Dariu Foundation during the 2022-2023 academic year, advanced to the finals of the Coolest Project Malaysia 2023 competition, and competed directly in Malaysia. During the 2021-2022 academic year, under the guidance of Hiem, the school's programming club had an outstanding project titled "Supporting Communication for Language and Hearing Impaired People," which earned the second runner-up prize in the Coolest Project Malaysia 2022. Thus, students from the disadvantaged Cun Pheo area achieved awards in two consecutive years at this global intellectual playground.
