There are 27,091 poor households in Hoa Binh
province at present, accounting for 12.29% of the local total. Tran Duc Truong, Vice Chairman of the provincial
VFF Committee and deputy head of the province’s board for mobilising donations
to the Fund for the Poor, said that over the past years, the provincial VFF
Committee’s Standing Board has built plans for implementing the movement.
He noted VFF committees at all levels and member
organisations have been instructed to raise donations from agencies,
organisations, enterprises, schools, and philanthropists to the needy and the
Fund for the Poor in the province. They have also been ordered to grasp the
situation and backgrounds of local residents, low-income households, and those
at risk of poverty relapse to offer timely assistance.
Since September 2022, 260 units in and outside
the province have donated more than 23.6 billion VND (960,900 USD) to the Fund
for the Poor. The fund management board has allocated nearly 21.5 billion VND for
building 387 houses, presenting gifts to poor families, and granting
scholarships to disadvantaged students. The donations raised were over 13
billion VND more than that last year.
The donation to and assistance for the poor are
regular, but the peak is the Month for the Poor. To prepare for this year’s
Month for the Poor (from October 17 to November 18), the provincial VFF
Committee’s Standing Board and the provincial board for raising donations to
the Fund for the Poor have built a plan, given fundraising guidance to
all-level VFF committees and member organisations, coordinated to survey poor
and disadvantaged households, and called for enterprises and philanthropists’
support for the impoverished.
Truong affirmed that the Fund for the Poor has
been managed and used in line with regulations and in a transparent manner. The
resources mobilised will be used to build and repair houses for poor people,
help the needy purchase production materials and tools, support livelihood
models to help with sustainable poverty reduction, and assist in building
