Cao Phong district has carried out an array of measures to create stable jobs for local laborers. Bui Thi Du, a resident in Trang Tren hamlet, Hop Phong commune, recently engaged in a training course on raising free-range chickens. Cao Phong district has given priority to Hop Phong commune to open vocational training courses for local workers. This year, two courses on raising free-range chickens, one on raising pig and one cooking class have been arranged for poor and near-poor households and those escaping poverty. They are held within the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction. Besides, 10 vocational training courses were held within the framework of the national target prgramme on socio-economic development in the ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas.

According to Tran Van Y, head of the labour-invalids and social affairs bureau of Cao Phong district, together with working to improve the quality of the local workforce and create jobs in local areas, the district has carried out an array of sustainable employment policies.

Those include a programme to send workers abroad under contracts, and preferential loan policies to create jobs for the youth, poor and near-poor households and ethnic people, he said, adding the district has popularised the Prime Minister’s decision on providing credit for workers going to work in the Republic of Korea.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the district organised four job fairs in Cao Phong town and Tay Phong, Thach Yen and Thung Nai communes, with each attracting some 350 local labourers. Enterprises and recruiters gave consultations and introduced job opportunities in and outside the country to local workers.

Thanks to the local authorities’ efforts and support from businesses, many locals have got chances to work abroad, with Taiwan (China), Japan, and the Republic of Korea attracting the most.

According to statistics, Cao Phong district is now home to more than 35,800 working-age people, with more than 1,000 locals getting employment every year. The district has carried out a wide range of measures to create stable jobs for local workers. In 2023, based on rural workers’ demand and the market’s supply, the district organised 30 training classes for 950 locals, two of which were arranged under the district’s budget, 21 under the national target prgramme on socio-economic development in the ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas, and seven under the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction. Many of the workhands were employed at local businesses and garment and textile workshops, while many got jobs at industrial parks in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces.

The district’s efforts to general jobs for local residents have made contributions to realising the sustainable poverty alleviation target, and improve locals’ livelihoods.

The multidimensional poverty rate in Cao Phong reduced from 6.69% in 2022 to 4.99% in 2023.
