The elderly people in Tan Ly village, Tu Ly commune (Da Bac) have received the initial health advice and examination from the grassroots medical staff.


In Da Bac district there are 17 communes and towns, of which there are 12 communes belonging to region III, the poor households account for 25.7%, the people's lives are still difficult. The District’s Representative Board of the Elderly Association has proactively advised the Party Committee and the local authorities to carry out many activities to improve health care for the elderly. According to the statistics in 2023, the medical facilities in the area have provided consultation and medical examination for over 10,000 turns of elderly people, and 5,900 elderly people have had initial health monitoring records established. Ms. Xa Thi Huyen, the Head of the Representative Board of Da Bac District’s Ederly Association, says: "Identifying the difficulties and challenges posed in health care work for the elderly, the Representative Board of the District’s Ederly Association has proactively coordinated with all levels and sectors to deploy the propaganda activities to raise the awareness of the social community in the health care of the elderly, and at the same time they have been implementing consulting and medical examination activities for the elderly. For the elderly in the communes in extremely difficult areas, they are examined periodically at the nearest medical facilities.

In order to carry out health care activities for the elderly, the Provincial Association of the Elderly has proactively advised the Party Committee and local authorities to fully implement the regimes and policies for the elderly. They have been focusing on propagandizing and disseminating he content on health training, nutrition... warning about some common diseases in the elderly such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure... In 2023, the provincial Elderly Association has coordinated with all levels and sectors to ensure that over 15,000 elderly people are eligible to receive the social benefits. Among them, 4,300 elderly people under 80 years old are lonely and disabled; over 11,000 elderly aged 80 and over; Over 101,000 elderly people have health insurance cards; 80,800 turns of elderly people received regular health checks; 68,000 elderly people have the initial health monitoring books at the medical facilities,

In addition to effectively implementing the regimes and policies to care for and improve health for the elderly, the Provincial Elderly Association has effectively promoted the social resources. Accordingly, the projects: "Reducing the income and health vulnerability of the elderly in Vietnam”, "Supporting the disadvantaged elderly through replicating intergenerational self-help clubs in Vietnam”, "Supporting to build a system of community-based long-term care service” has supported the care of the sick elderly, establishing and replicating the models of intergenerational self-help clubs. They have been efectively maintaining and operating 1,628 models of cultural, arts, and sports clubs to improve health, physical and mental health for the elderly.

The Department of Health has issued Plan No. 2240 on "Health care for the elderly and replication of the model of intergenerational self-help clubs in Hoa Binh province for the period 2022 – 2025”. The goal is to improve the quality of health care for the elderly, promote the socialization of the elderly health care activities in accordance with the potential and level of socio-economic development of the province. Some specific targets are as followed: 100% of the party committees and authorities at all levels issue resolutions, plans, and budget investments for the elderly health care; 70% of the elderly receive regular health checks at least once a year, 95% of the elderly have health monitoring records created; 70% of the elderly are detected, treated and managed for non-communicable diseases (cancer, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure...); 100% of the commune and ward health stations coordinate with the Elderly Association and the local intergenerational self-help clubs to well implement the health care activities...

Mr. Bui Tuan Hai, the Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association says: In the coming time, the Elderly Association at all levels will continue doing a good job of advising and helping the party committees and the appropriate authorities implement the regimes and policies for the elderly. It is necessary to focus on propagandizing and raising awareness of the elderly in taking care of and improving their health. We hope that local authorities will mobilize the resources to invest in building and upgrading the physical facilities at the medical facilities. It is also important to maintain and operate effectively the health care models for the elderly. Thereby, it helps gradually improving the quality of the health care, improving the quality of life, helping the elderly live joyfully - live healthily - live happily.
