Promoting and upholding the role of the great national solidarity bloc, the Fatherland Front Committee of Kim Boi district in Hoa Binh province has been connecting with organisations and individuals to call for people's contributions to the "For the Poor" fund. With the fund, the committee has supported disadvantaged families in the locality to build and repair houses. The assistance helps poor people settle down, gradually stabilise their lives, and get out of poverty.

Representatives from the Fatherland Front Committee of Kim Boi district hand over a new house to a poor family in Coc hamlet, Vinh Dong commune.

Bui Thi Chien, a resident in Coc hamlet of Vinh Dong commune, said that in late August 2023, her family was happy to receive a "Great Solidarity” house which was built with financial support from the "For the Poor” fund.

The 50-sq.m house costs over 100 million VND (4,000 USD). As a poor household, Chien and her child used to live in a damp, degraded old house for many years. With a financial support of 30 million VND of the district’s Fatherland Front Committee, the commune’s Party Committee, administration and her relatives, she built a new house last year.

Chien excitedly said that since she lived in the new house, she has felt secure and determined to boost production and escape poverty.

Another local resident Bui Van Phu in Dam Rung hamlet of Vinh Tien commune also received the housing support. Phu said that he is often sick and unable to do heavy work. He did not dare to dream of building or repairing his house.

Last year, the district's Fatherland Front Committee gave him 30 million VND sourced from the "For the Poor" fund.

Beside financial support, people also offer work days and materials to help poor households to build or repair their houses.

Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, Head of the district Party Committee's Board for Mass Mobilisation, Chairwoman of the Kim Boi district Fatherland Front Committee, said that the district’s committee directed its subordinate chapters of communes and towns to develop plans and organise activities to contribute to "For the Poor" funds at all levels.

During the 2019 – 2023 period, the fund provided financial support to build 95 "Great Solidarity” houses worth over 2.8 billion VND.
