Creating on-site jobs for rural women lies in the heart of the operation of the Women's Union of Lac Thinh commune in Yen Thuy district. Bui Thi Tien, 44, of the Muong ethnic group, a member of the women's union of Sau hamlet in Lac Thinh commune, has boldly sought and created jobs for many women to increase their income and improve their families' living standards.

In the context that apart from farming, most local women had no extra work to
raise their income, and with her own experience in handicraft, Tien decided to
bring weaving to her hometown in 2018, benefiting over 40 women and outside the
commune, who earn from 1.5 to 5 million VND (59.08-196.94 USD) per month.
Weaving is not a hard work, but it requires carefulness, meticulousness,
perseverance, and diligence, said Tien, adding at first, she spent time
encouraging local women to pursue it to earn extra income.
Among
the participants is Bui Thi Van, 34, from Lang hamlet, Lac Thinh commune, who
was born deaf and mute. Since joining Tien’s model in 2019, Van has felt more
confident and can earn about 4 million each month.
Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Lac Thinh commune Nguyen Thi Minh Huyen said
over the past years, the union has always focused on job generation, with Tien
setting a bright example for others.
