The Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) was born from the people, serves the people, and is ready to fight and sacrifice "for independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism, and for happiness of the people”.

Leaders of Hoa Binh province and the provincial Military Command unveil the relic site of the venue where the province’s armed forces were established in Khi hamlet of Nhan Nghia commune, Lac Son district, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of the All People’s Defence Festival.

The VPA’s forerunner was the Vietnam Propaganda Unit of Liberation Army, established on December 22, 1944 under President Ho Chi Minh’s directive. At the time of its foundation, the unit had only 34 members and soon brought into play the tradition of defeating foreign invaders and the military art of the country.

From an army of only a few hundreds of people participating in the General Uprising to seize power in the autumn of August 1945, the VPA has developed into an army with strong main divisions, achieving glorious feats that resounded across the five continents and shook the globe, with the peak being the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954, crushing the French colonialists' plot to re-establish its colonial rule in Vietnam and other Indochinese countries.

After the Geneva Accords in 1954 was signed, the US replaced France to occupy the South, and Vietnam was temporarily divided into two regions. Facing the direct intervention of the US military, the VPA became the core force, together with people nationwide, to wage a comprehensive, long-term and arduous all-people's war. They achieved many miracles in battles. Typical fights included the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1968; the resistance against the sabotage war by the US air force and navy in the North, culminating in the "Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air" campaign in December 1972; and the success of the resistance war against the US, which ended with the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign on April 30, 1975, reunifying the country and opening a new period of development for the country. After the historic victory in 1975, the VPA continued to join the people of the whole country in successfully conducting the wars to defend the border and firmly maintain the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

The armed forces of Hoa Binh province, part of the VPA, have gone through 77 years of fighting, building and growing (August 16, 1947 - 2024). Since its inception, under the leadership of the Party and the care from people of all ethnic groups in the province, the local armed forces have continuously grown and developed in both quantity and quality. They have made worthy contributions to the fighting tradition of the nation and the heroic VPA. With great contributions and sacrifices in the two resistance wars against the French and American invaders, as well as in the cause of national construction and safeguarding, the armed forces of Hoa Binh have built the tradition of "Solidarity, Creativity, Cooperation, Achievement of Feats, Victory", which is a source of pride, a training taget, and a source of support for each officer and soldier of the armed forces to strive and move forwards.

In the cause of national construction and safeguarding, the province’s armed forces have always properly fulfilled the functions of a combat army, a working army and a production army. They have coordinated well with departments, sectors, and organisations to advise the provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee about the state management of national defense in the locality. Every year, they have effectively completed local defence and military tasks.

In addition, the armed forces of Hoa Binh have also brought into play their role as a core force in helping build a strong political base, develop a civilised life, and eradicate poverty, thus bringing about practical results and winning high evaluation from the local Party committees, administrations, and people. Their efforts have contributed to the development of Hoa Binh, which has gradually become economically rich, solid in politics, and strong in national defence and security.

Through the performance of tasks, soldiers of the VPA in general, and officers and soldiers in the Hoa Binh armed forces in particular, have cultivated a close relationship with the people, vividly and clearly demonstrating the virtues of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", and winning trust and love from people of all ethnic groups in the province.

Revolutionary stages of the resistance wars as well as the cause of national construction have proved that despite difficulties, challenges, sacrifices and hardships, the province’s armed forces remain absolutely loyal to the Party, Fatherland and people. At the same time, they have always shown themselves as a loyal political force and combatant force, a core force in the building of solid all-people’s national defence and security, as well as truly a firm and trustworthy support for the Party Committee, administration and people of all ethnic groups in the province.

In the face of revolutionary requirements and tasks in the new situation, each cadre and soldier of the local armed forces must constantly promote the tradition of building, fighting and growing, and strive even harder to excellently fulfill all assigned tasks.
