The Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hoa Binh province held a meeting on May 28 to honour outstanding village elders, village heads, and reputable individuals from local ethnic minority and religious communities.

Standing members of the provincial Party Committee and leaders of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee present flowers to congratulate the conference.

The event was attended by Bui Thi Minh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council; Bui Duc Hinh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; as well as leaders of various provincial departments and agencies.

Hoa Binh is home to two major religious communities—Buddhists and Catholics—with more than 48,000 followers, accounting for 5.9% of the province’s population. This year, local VFF chapters have actively disseminated the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies to religious dignitaries and followers. Efforts have been made to maintain exemplary models while the VFF and mass organisations have worked closely with local authorities to resolve issues emerging. The moves have helped maintain stability in ethnic and mountainous areas, and improve locals' sense of self-reliance as well as participation in economic development and poverty reduction.

The province currently has 1,399 reputable individuals. The provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and VFF Committee consider these persons as "extended arms" of the Party and State. They serve as vital bridges linking ethnic communities and local authorities, helping to build their trust in the Party and State and reinforce the great national solidarity.

Addressing the event, Minh commended the achievements in religious affairs and the empowerment of ethnic minority communities. She called on village elders, village heads, and reputable individuals to continue setting good examples in community-based learning, and encouraging people to adhere to Party guidelines and State laws.

The official urged them to take the lead in eliminating backward customs and fighting social vices, particularly child and consanguineous marriages, as well as superstitious practices, to help build a healthy and progressive lifestyle in their communities. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining grassroots security and social order, resolving internal conflicts, safeguarding the national solidarity, and firmly combating any attempt aimed at exploiting religious or ethnic affairs to drive a wedge into the national solidarity.

She encouraged their active engagement in major programmes, especially those focused on eliminating substandard houses, developing livelihoods, sustainably reducing poverty, preserving the Muong ethnic culture, and promoting the values of "Hoa Binh Civilisation".

Besides, Minh underlined the need to build advanced and model new-style rural communes, and nurture a new generation of dedicated, capable, and reputable people who will continue the legacy of community leadership across the province.
