(HBO) – A ceremony to launch the New Year tree planting festival was held in Hoa Binh city, Hoa Binh province on February 21 (the sixth day of the first lunar month). The event was attended by Mr. Bui Van Tinh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Mr. Dinh Van Duc, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; and representatives from local departments, sectors and armed forces, and students.

This year, the tree planting festival was
launched in Nguyen Van Troi street, Tan Thinh ward (Hoa Binh city). This street
has been upgraded recently to reduce flooding in the rainy season and
facilitate locals’ travel to Hoa Binh Pagoda.
At the event, to raise public awareness of
the role and value of forest and the significant of tree planting and afforestation
in mitigating natural disasters and adapting to climate change, the organising
board highlighted contents in Directive No. 01/CT-UBND issued by the provincial
People’s Committee on January 18, 2018 on launching the tree planting festival on
the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
The directive asked the local People’s Committees
throughout the province, and units to map out a plan of tree planting and afforestation
in connection with performing other tasks in 2018.
Additionally, it also aims to encourage
people to join in the festival and calls for efforts to raise public awareness of
the role and value of forest and the significant of tree planting and
afforestation, forest and ecosystem protection, thus contributing to reducing
impacts caused by disasters and effectively coping with climate change.
Hoa Binh city aims to plant 12,000 trees
and 200 ha of forest in 2018; and maintain the rate of forest coverage at 40
percent.
Immediately after the launching ceremony,
the province’s leaders together with representatives from the local armed
forces and students planted 79 white crape myrtles along Nguyen Van Troi street
(Hoa Binh city). The municipal authorities hope the planted trees will
contribute to improving landscape in the area around the Hoa Binh Pagoda./.
The 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Groups of Hoa Binh province was successfully held on November 15 at the provincial Culture Centre.
