This year, the tree planting festival was launched in Nguyen Van Troi street, Tan Thinh ward (Hoa Binh city). This street has been upgraded recently to reduce flooding in the rainy season and facilitate locals’ travel to Hoa Binh Pagoda.

At the event, to raise public awareness of the role and value of forest and the significant of tree planting and afforestation in mitigating natural disasters and adapting to climate change, the organising board highlighted contents in Directive No. 01/CT-UBND issued by the provincial People’s Committee on January 18, 2018 on launching the tree planting festival on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

The directive asked the local People’s Committees throughout the province, and units to map out a plan of tree planting and afforestation in connection with performing other tasks in 2018.

Additionally, it also aims to encourage people to join in the festival and calls for efforts to raise public awareness of the role and value of forest and the significant of tree planting and afforestation, forest and ecosystem protection, thus contributing to reducing impacts caused by disasters and effectively coping with climate change.

Hoa Binh city aims to plant 12,000 trees and 200 ha of forest in 2018; and maintain the rate of forest coverage at 40 percent.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the province’s leaders together with representatives from the local armed forces and students planted 79 white crape myrtles along Nguyen Van Troi street (Hoa Binh city). The municipal authorities hope the planted trees will contribute to improving landscape in the area around the Hoa Binh Pagoda./.
