Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a meeting on March 7, with the leaders of the ministries and agencies concerned, to discuss the preparations for the sixth Great Mekong Subregion Summit (GMS-6) and the 10th Summit of Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Development Triangle Area (CLV 10) to be held from March 29 to 31.

At the meeting, the leaders of the organising board of GMS-6 and CLV 10 and the relevant ministries and agencies reported on the results of the work that needs to be done.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the efforts of the organising board of GMS-6 and CLV 10, as well as the ministries, sectors and localities concerned in effectively preparing for the hosting of the events over the past while.

He stressed that after the success of APEC 2017, it is one of the three largest multilateral events to be held in Vietnam in 2018 and an opportunity for the leaders to discuss issues of mutual concern, including strengthening their cooperation in investment, trade promotion, security and the sustainable use of the Mekong River. It is also an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen its cooperation towards the goal of socio-economic development.

In order to ensure the successful organisation of the GMS-6 and CLV 10, preparation should be in alignment with the intended purpose, requirements and motto pursued, the PM said, asking the the relevant ministries, branches and localities should coordinate closely in the preparation and organisation of the activities to ensure the effectiveness, safety and security for the event.

The authorities concerned should also pay attention to information and communication work for people and businesses to ensure they are aware the role and benefits of the Greater Mekong Subregion and the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle on Vietnam's economic development, thereby promoting their responsibility and actively contributing to the promotion of the image of Vietnam as a dynamic and integrated country with a friendly, hospitable and modern Vietnamese people.
