The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese, Vu Hong Nam; Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand, Nguyen Hai Bang; and around 2,000 Vietnamese people who are working and studying in Thailand.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang commemorated the legacy of President Ho Chi Minh who devoted his whole life to the people and nation of Vietnam.

He reviewed the establishment and development of the relations between Vietnam and Thailand, which are the first two ASEAN nations to establish a strategic partnership. Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trade partner in the ASEAN bloc, and bilateral trade turnover has performed strongly with an annual growth rate of 15.5%, he noted.

He expressed his firm belief that the bilateral friendship and cooperation will grow further for the mutual interest and prosperity of the two peoples, contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world at large.

Earlier the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam and Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang joined representatives of Vietnamese agencies in Thailand and Overseas Vietnamese community to pay homage to President Ho Chi Minh at his memorial site in Udon Thani.
