Party and State leaders have joined local people in celebrating the great national unity festival across the nation, which aims to tighten the great national unity bloc.

On November 17, National Assembly Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, attended the festival in Nam O Village, in Thuy Trinh commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province, on the occasion of the 88th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) (November 18, 1930-2018).

Speaking at the event, the NA leader stated that the great national unity festival is a community-based activity to evaluate the implementation of emulation movements at the grassroots level and to honour collectives, households and individuals who have made great achievements in carrying out the Party and State policies in the construction of united residential and rural areas, together with a building modern and civilised cultural life.

The senior legislator praised Thai Binh province and Nam O village’s achievements in recent years, saying that the latter has strengthened its efforts in realising the goals in modern rural area building, with the per capita income reaching nearly VND40 million a year.

To continue promoting the campaign and improving the quality of life for local people, the NA chairwoman urged the local authorities and people to unite as one in order to jointly develop a healthy environment, peaceful villages, cultural families and civilised residential areas, as well as encourage each other to abide by the State’s laws to maintain social security and order.

She also asked the local authorities and the VFF at all levels to continue to play their role as a bridge to connect the Party and the government with the people to timely encourage, listen to, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of local people.

On the occasion, NA Chairwoman Ngan joined the leaders from the VFF, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Thai Binh province to present gifts to local policy families.

* Also, on November 17, in Lam Dong province, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Truong Thi Mai, joined the great national unity festival in Thanh Huong 3 hamlet, in Loc Thanh commune, Bao Loc city.

Speaking at the event, Politburo member Mai expressed her wish that the local people would continue to bring into full play their achievements, actively implement the Party and State's undertakings and policies in socio-economic development, and maintain national security and defence to boost the campaign "All people unite to build new rural and civilised urban areas”.

On the occasion, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, the VFF Central Committee and Lam Dong province handed over 50 scholarships to local disadvantaged students and presented five gifts to local policy families.

On the evening of the same day, Politburo member Mai attended a ceremony to honour 88 outstanding individuals who have made great contribution to the implementation of emulation campaigns in Lam Dong. It is the first time the event has been held in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

* On Saturday, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Communications, Vo Van Thuong, joined locals in No. 5 hamlet of Nghia Dung commune, Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province, to celebrate the great national unity festival and launch the "Building new rural and civilised urban areas in associated with environmental protection” campaign.

Politburo member Thuong suggested that the local authorities pay attention to harmonising the benefits of economic development and urbanisation with social security, while assisting locals in eliminating poverty. The VFF at all levels should play a role in contributing to solving the problems that arise in livelihoods and social security, he asked.

On the occasion, Politburo member Thuong and the leaders of Quang Ngai province visited and presented gifts to local disadvantaged households and policy families.

* In Lao Cai province on the same day, Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office joined local officials and soldiers at A Mu Sung border station and locals in A Mu Sung commune in Bat Xat district to celebrate the great national unity festival.

Earlier, Secretary Nen and his entourages attended the same events in Tung Qua, Ban Pho, Lung Po and Tung Sang hamlets in A Mu Sung commune.

The delegation also presented gifts to A Mu Sung border station and ethnic minority people in the commune.
